A 3-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool in Vitré (Ille-et-Vilaine) a little over a week ago. After being hospitalized, the child died this Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Drama in Brittany. On October 31, a 3-year-old girl was found unconscious at the bottom of a pool at the Bocage swimming pool in Vitré, a town near Rennes. Transported to hospital in absolute emergency, she was placed in an artificial coma. But this Saturday, the child died, reports West France.
An open investigation
It was two children who discovered the little girl at the bottom of the swimming pool. The latter, very shocked, were taken care of. They were all part of a group of around forty children from the Argentré-du-Plessis recreational center near Vitré.
But how could such a tragedy happen? In order to shed light on this affair, Frédéric Teillet, public prosecutor, affirmed that an investigation was opened to “unintentional injuries” and aims to “determine the circumstances in which the child was able to escape the vigilance of both the supervisors of the recreational center with whom she was at the swimming pool and the lifeguards of the establishment present on site”. It is the Vitré gendarmes who are in charge of the investigations.
The two swimming pools in the town are closed for a period of one week. “The closing time will allow us to organize a time of contemplation, exchange and reflection with the teams”adds Vitré Communauté, cited by the local daily.
