This is close to a record. A 178 kg wild boar was slaughtered in Neau (Mayenne), this Saturday, November 9, 2024, during a hunt. On October 12, another weighing 181 kg was killed in Ille-et-Vilaine. We have never seen such a huge wild boar. And yet, we have been hunting for more than 15 years, even 20 years. In general, a wild boar weighs around 80 kg. But there, 178 kg is incredible », confide Gaylord Pommier, Sébastien Remon and Dupuis Thomas, the three trackers.
“Game that destroys everything”
But what is a tracker? “ During a driven hunt, the trackers are often accompanied by dogs who drive the prey towards the posted shooters. It is 9 a.m., in a cornfield located at a place called La Sauvagère, when the three friends and their pack of dogs, around thirty, begin their advance while around twenty shooters position themselves around them. “ I was contacted this week to tell me that there was game in this field and that it was destroying everything,” confides Gaylord Pommier.
At the sound of their master's voice, the dogs, motivated, bark, move forward and sniff. “Our goal is to bring out the game.” The first shots ring out. The first wild boars are killed. It was not much later in the morning that Gaylord Pommier, Sébastien Remon and Dupuis Thomas found their dogs around the beast. “ The last big boar I hunted, two years ago, weighed 136 kg. That's why I immediately told the guys that this one weighed at least 150 kg », remembers Gaylord Pommier.
The hunters had to use straps and a tractor to lift their catch.
