Yoann GilletRN deputy for Gard, calls on Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Ecological Transition in a letter after the State decided to suspend SYMADREM projects, which aim to prevent the risk of flooding.
In his letter, the RN deputy from Gard, Yoann Gilletfirstly recalls that the floods of 1993, 1994 and 2003 led to the creation of the Rhône Plan, a system under the aegis of the State which allowed the Interregional Mixed Syndicate of the Dykes of the Rhône Delta and the Sea (SYMADREM) to carry out 220 million euros of investment works since 2007. Thanks to these investments, these are notably 73 kilometers of dikes which were consolidated between the Vallabrègues dam and downstream from the city center of Arles.
The Camargue still at risk
Despite improvements in exposure to flood risk for people living at the head of the Rhône delta, the danger for residents residing in Camargue Gardoise, in the Insular Camargue and in the lowlands of the Beaucaire plain as well as in the Saint-Gilles corridor remained “identical to the situation in 2003”.
Respect your commitments.
Today, the continuation of the SYMADREM work is suspended despite its compliance with the objectives of the Rhône Plan and the 2022-2027 Flood Risk Management Plan. Thus, Yoann Gillet asks Agnès Pannier-Runacher to intervene so that the State honors its commitments in terms of flood prevention. Finally, he calls on the Government to place the SYMADREM work file, submitted in April 2022, into a public inquiry in order to allow a start of work in 2025.
