The 228 employees of Duralex formed a SCOP in order to take over the famous glassworks, thus preventing it from closing. They have been exhibiting since November 8 and for the first time at the Made in France show.
We call them the Duralexiens and the Duralexiennes, together they have decided to take back their destiny. They bought their factory. 80 years after the creation of a glass that we all know, employees will try to give their glassware another chance. A new company has just been born and everything has to be rebuilt. “Do you remember where we went?”asks one of the former employees.
“How do you want to lose with an atmosphere like that? We can’t”explains François Marciano, general director of Scop. An atmosphere that was not there every day: “They were afraid of the future”. However, for him and for all the partners, it was impossible to abandon know-how as powerful as that of glassmaking, quite a symbol.
“In glass, there is a magical side. When we see that with sand, we put flames in it and it becomes glass. There is a noble side. And it is possible to recycle it infinitely Glass is the past, glass is history and glass is the future. We say to ourselves that no, it is not possible to let this go, to let this heritage go. this know-how.”
