To meet the changing health needs of the region, the Saint-Germain clinic, located in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines), is considering a new care offer. Among the avenues envisagedthere is one which has not gone unnoticed and which provokes a strong reaction.
Indeed, the Vivalto Santé group, which the clinic joined in July 2017, announces that it wants to close the maternity ward of its Saint-German establishment, the only one in activity in the municipality.
“Drop in the birth rate and strain on human resources”
“Given the double tension on human resources and the decline in the birth rate, as well as the desire to guarantee the safety of parturients (woman giving birth) and newbornsbirth care would no longer be provided by the Saint-Germain clinic,” explains Vivalto Santé.
“Care could be provided by the intercommunal hospital center of Poissy/Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Chips). »
Any benefit for Chips?
To support its closure project, the group explains that Chips, already accounting for more than 4,000 births per year, will be able to monitor the end of pregnancies and support births.
“This complementarity must support the security of the current healthcare offering, by allowing the Poissy/Saint-Germain-en-Laye intercommunal hospital center to increase the number of its births in a context of a sharp decline in the birth rate. »
For Vivalto Santé, this would also “enable thereby strengthening its expertise to avoid, in the long term, weakening the proven quality of support for pregnant women, an essential point for the safety of women and their children.”
An unacceptable decision for the City
Suffice to say that this project to close the maternity ward of the Saint-Germain clinic has makes the mayor jump Arnaud Péricard. For him, this decision is completely unacceptable and would have a serious impact on the territory.
“We do not accept this blow to the health of women in our region and, as elected officials of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, we refuse this setback. »
“Without any prior consultation”
” We are aware of the difficulties encountered more generally by health establishments in western Paris, admits Arnaud Péricard. But this cannot, in itself, justify a decision taken without any prior consultation. »
The councilor indicates that he contacted the national management of Vivalto, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Île-de-France, as well as the Ministry of Health, to obtain explanations “on this brutal decision ».
He also asked Chips, of which he is president, “in order to measure the consequences of this decision”.
Mayor's bitterness
Faced with this threat of seeing his motherhood disappear, the mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye cannot hide his bitterness.
“As mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, I have always supported the initiatives and development of the clinic in our territory. »
“The City and Vivalto teams worked hand in hand with management to support the projects,” he continues. I note today, with bitterness, that this collaboration unfortunately turns out to be One Way. »

To block the decision of the Vivalto Santé group, the City created a special page on its website to allow the population to express their support for motherhood.
