Explosions and a fire in the underground parking lot of a building left two people dead and several injured on Thursday evening in Nussbaumen (AG). Several buildings were evacuated. The material damage is considerable.

Thursday shortly before 7:00 p.m., several explosions in Nussbaumen were reported to the cantonal emergency call center, specifies a press release released Thursday evening. The police, firefighters and emergency services were immediately mobilized.

In the meantime, a fire spread over several floors of an apartment building. Extinguishing work is still in progress. According to the Aargau police, the explosions probably occurred in the underground car park.

All people were able to be evacuated from the threatened buildings. Two people were found dead while eleven people were injured. The search continues to find other possible victims under the rubble.

An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the tragedy. The buildings and surrounding areas suffered significant material damage. Residents have not yet been able to return to their homes. Emergency accommodation centers have been set up.

Traffic was diverted on a large scale. Several firefighters and emergency services were mobilized.
