Pollution of the Meuse in the Mouzon sector on the outskirts of Luxembourg. This Friday, November 8, latex pollution was noted in the commune of Mouzon. This is of accidental origin and comes from the Adler Pelzer factory, an automobile equipment manufacturer. An estimated 2 tonnes of liquid were spilled into the Meuse, causing visible pollution over a distance of nearly 2,000 meters..
” The firefighters present on site ruled out the risk to human health from this pollution. It was not considered relevant to place an absorbent device given the miscibility of the product in water. ” indicates the Ardennes prefecture in a press release.
No fish mortality was observed at this stage. However, it is a product that can be toxic to certain fish. The French Biodiversity Office took water samples this afternoon for analysis purposes.
The prefect of the Ardennes has decided to issue today, as a precaution, a decree prohibiting the consumption of fish caught in the Meuse, between the municipalities of Mouzon and Givet, from today until November 24, 2024.
