the essential
Meeting this Wednesday before holding a press conference, this Thursday, June 13, in Pamiers, the inter-union calls on the “parties of progress to agree on union candidacies”, on the left, with a view to the legislative elections. She also strongly demands that “social demands” be heard. A demonstration is scheduled for this Saturday in Foix.

The inter-union union bringing together the CFDT, the CGT, the UNSA, the FSU and Solidaires burst into the legislative arena this Thursday, June 13, which will be held on June 30 and July 7. She demands that “social demands” be heard and that “progressive parties agree on union candidacies”. Representatives of the five organizations, already united in the fight against pension reform last year, met this Wednesday, before holding a joint press conference this Thursday, June 13, in the premises of the CGT departmental union, in Pamiers.

The fear of seeing constituencies flip

Patrick Chevallier (CGT), Aurélien Buzin (FSU), Jean-Luc Torrecillas (CFDT), Daniel Mémain (Solidaires) and Antoine Loguillard (UNSA) share the same fear: seeing the Ariège constituencies fall into the hands of the National Rally in three weeks , “as certain neighboring departments, such as Aude, experienced in the last legislative elections”, recalls Antoine Loguillard (UNSA). “It is a common expression, as we were able to do at the time of the pension reform: we are addressing all progressive candidates so that they form a union, in order to present a single candidate”, specifies Patrick Chevallier. “The situation is serious, continues Antoine Loguillard. There is a real risk in Ariège. The RN is not a party like the others. Wherever the extreme right comes to power, there is a decline in public freedoms and union rights, as well as social rights.

The specter of division

If they don’t talk about it, the question appears implicitly in the intervention of the five union leaders: will the Popular Front present its own candidates in Ariège? The answer will be given in the coming hours or days. Without waiting, Michel Larive (LFI) already announces his intention to go to the campaign. A decision shared on social networks. Laurent Panifous will therefore find him on his route. In the 1st district, it’s a wait. Rumor is also circulating of a second candidacy, against Martine Froger.

Faced with the consequences of a division, the inter-union renews its call for unity and returns the ball to the court of the political parties. “It is not up to the trade union organizations to decide on candidacy questions”, soberly reminds Patrick Chevalier (CGT). “Our responsibility is above all to make demands,” adds Daniel Mémain (Solidaire). In this platform of demands, the inter-union places at the forefront the defense of purchasing power, workers’ rights, wages, pension reform and unemployment insurance, “to which we must return”, concludes the inter-union. The inter-union announces a demonstration this Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., on the alleys of Villote.
