The sun is barely rising this Thursday, June 13. In the bar room of the Sowell Family Pignada Plage in Soustons (Landes), facing a bucolic setting, excitement reigns. In a few minutes the fourth delocalized morning show will begin, “Bruno on Fun Radio”. The anthill goes silent at 6 a.m. sharp before breaking into a general “Hellorrrrrr”. Bruno Guillon and his team have just started for six hours of live broadcast.

During a break in this show, the star host of Fun Radio gave us a few minutes. Encounter :

News: You have been here in Soustons since Monday, how is your stay in Landes going?

Bruno Guillon: Very good ! This morning (Thursday June 13 – Editor’s note) we have a magnificent sun reflecting on Lake Soustons. Listeners come to see us, every day there are new ones so we are very happy to be here, the welcome has been great.

You come from the South-West (near La Rochelle), is that why you chose the Landes to relocate this morning?

BG: Generally, when the shows travel, it is fashionable to go to the Var, but I don’t do like everyone else. Last year, we were in Brittany and I said why not the South-West this year. This is an opportunity for the team to discover this beautiful region, because I have had the chance to come there very often.

Maud, 28 years old from Lyon, spent a week with the “Bruno sur Fun Radio” team

Like a few lucky listeners, Maud attends all the morning shows relocated this week to Soustons. The 28-year-old Lyonnaise, osteopath, won the right to see her favorite host by winning a game, on air, during the season. Reward, one week all expenses paid. “It’s very interesting,” she tells us, “we can see everything behind the show, the before, during and after.” The lucky winners participate in the same activities as Bruno Guillon’s team: “We went to eat at the restaurant, we played games with them and we had drinks together. We are very lucky to be there.”

What actually changes when you move from a fixed studio to a relocation?

BG: Already, it’s like a full-scale seminar. What I like is also being able to take listeners with us (see box), making them discover that what they hear all year round is really what is happening in reality. It’s not a superficial friendship either since they come with us to the activities we do in the afternoon, we eat together… For me and the team, it’s a bit too our recreation, an end-of-year celebration. Finally, it’s also a way to take listeners on vacation.

A question that a lot of people ask themselves is how do we manage ourselves physically and mentally to continue every morning of the week at 6 a.m.?

BG: So (laughing) in a delocalized broadcast, like this week, lifestyle is more complicated (laughing) because it lends itself a little more to the joke… For the rest of the year, it’s a lot more square. It’s a real marathon in the morning, and if you’re not awake, it’s complicated to wake up the listeners. The rest of the year, I go to bed at 9 p.m. and wake up at 3:45 a.m.

We observed on social networks that you were able to taste local gastronomy and in particular duck hearts. So the verdict?

BG: In any case, I found it excellent. As I said, I come from Charente-Maritime, I knew traditional cuisine, we killed the pig, the ducks so I liked it. On the other hand, it’s not a diet that I could follow on a daily basis (laughing).

One last question regarding current affairs. You started your mornings this Monday morning, a few hours after a national political cataclysm, even if it is not your primary role to talk about it, can we hide such news?

BG: Obviously, we cannot ignore what is happening. For a very long time, so-called “youth” music radio stations had an image of radio hosted by brainless people, and that is not the case. However, with all the news channels talking about this 24/7, I find that we are an alternative. People can take their minds off this topic and think about something else. Our duty is there. All I’m saying is go vote, for whoever you want, but go vote.
