Decisive step forthe project of Coupvray marina initiated in 2017. A prefectural authorization order was, in fact, signed last August. This decision followed the public consultation validated by the investigating commissioner on March 22.
After carrying out archaeological excavations (a call for tenders was launched in September), work should start in 2025 for an inauguration hoped for in 2027.
This marina, which will extend over 4.7 hectares at the entrance to the city, aims to favor “slow tourism” by promoting the Meaux canal. Open to individuals, cruise passengers and sailors, it will have around a hundred rings which will be able to accommodate boats and hotel barges. The aim, in addition to offering a stopover near Disneyland Paris and a nice stopover between Paris and the Champagne cellars, is to relieve traffic on the verge of saturation.
A new district also planned
The project also provides for the construction of a new district around the future marina. It will consist of 263 housing units private and social rental properties (50 houses and 213 apartments) and parking (62 spaces). Shops and service facilities (mini-crèche and harbor master’s office in particular) are also planned.
In 2021, the overall cost of the future marina was valued at 10 million euros. An investment financed mainly by the sale of municipal land and by a participation from the developers of the new district. The share remaining to be borne by the commune of Coupvray (2,949 inhabitants) was estimated at 224,000 euros.
Concerned about the threats that such an achievement will pose to biodiversity and the risks of pollution, the environmental association Renard filed an appeal with the administrative court of Melun. Thierry Cerri, the mayor (without label) of Coupvray, however, remains confident for two reasons: all the administrative steps have been completed and the future port has been certified by the Teragir association for its good environmental management.
The municipality also ensures that it has taken into account all of the recommendations made by the public inquiry with 32 commitments made since 2021.
“We want to set up a structuring project for the territory and exemplary on an environmental level. It will also be compatible with maintaining the quality of life sought in Coupvray“we promise at the town hall.
