Not all districts of Paris are equal in terms of road mortality. The National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory, which published a map of accidents occurring in 2023, consulted by Paris News reveals significant disparities: the roads in the central and southern districts of the capital are less dangerous.
No deaths in the 16th century
For example, the 16th arrondissement as well as the central districts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th arrondissements) recorded no deaths on their roads in 2023. Conversely, over this same period, the 19th arrondissement was particularly affected. Between the months of January, March, August, September, November and December, six pedestrians and a cyclist lost their lives.
The 17th arrondissement, although less affected, was also marked by tragedies. In January 2023 alone, two deaths were recorded there two days apart: a 77-year-old woman and the driver of a two-wheeler were killed in accidents. In total, as our colleagues recall, thirty-three people died in the streets of Paris following a road accident in 2023.
