A permanent playground including a fortress reaching 8 meters high is now part of the decor of the island of Cabessut, in Cahors. Still under construction, the structure will be inaugurated on site on July 6, at 10 a.m., at the same time as the launch of the flagship summer event “Assault on the Island”.

An 8 meter high tower perched under the trees of the island of Cabessut. On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the flagship event of the summer in Cahors, “Assault on the island” scheduled for Saturday July 6, a fixed and definitive playground will be inaugurated. A campaign promise from the mayor of Cahors and the municipality, the design of the playground is therefore underway. The work carried out by the company Proludic, manufacturer of play areas and outdoor facilities, should be completed next week, with an opening to the public planned for the day of the inauguration. The municipal children’s council was involved in bringing the project to fruition.

A 250,000 euro project

Children will then be able to enjoy an impregnable fortress reaching 8 m high, with its tower overlooking the Archipelago swimming pool and the Desprats stadium. The fortress is in the theme of the event “Assault on the island”, on piracy, and also bears its name. To access it, you will have to climb on ropes or take other paths strewn with pitfalls. The descent, however, will require less effort from the children.

The castle has three spiral slides, one of which serves as an exit door from the tower. “The structure will be able to accommodate dozens of children at the same time,” explains Thibaut Rouet, municipal councilor and delegate in charge of this play area. “It is divided into several spaces appropriate for different ages.”

One part will delight children over 12 years old, another will allow 3-4 year olds to have fun, in complete safety. “€250,000 was invested in the project,” says Thibaut Rouet. Focusing on pleasure and social connection, access will be completely free.

Swings, games, picnic tables…

Around the castle, two swings of different sizes, seesaws and picnic tables will be installed by next week. “We can imagine the families who eat and spend the day on the site,” describes Thibaut Rouet with enthusiasm. This is one of the objectives of the playground, where everything has been thought through. The project will allow families to enjoy a green space, the island of Cabessut, the green lung of Cahors, with more activities.

Technically, families can spend the entire day on the island. “They can go from the Archipelago swimming pool, to the new playground, via the rugby and basketball fields,” explains Thibaut Rouet. The infrastructures are strategically placed, shaded by trees for a good part of the day.

“The project is unifying. It allows everyone to come together and create social bonds all year round, in line with the objectives of the Assault on the Island event.

“Assaulting the island”, from July 6 to August 18, every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; inauguration of the new fortress Saturday July 6, at 10 a.m.
