Faid Abdellah, 24, was sentenced this Tuesday in Paris to 11 years of criminal imprisonment and a permanent ban from French territory for the rape of a sleeping woman at Cochin hospital in October 2022. The Paris criminal court l was found guilty of rape of a vulnerable person under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as theft and fraud. His name will be entered in the sex offenders file (FIJAIS).
The events took place on the night of October 27 to 28, 2022. The victim, aged 36, told the hearing that he had consumed alcohol in a Parisian bar that evening. Having felt unwell due to alcohol ingested on an empty stomach, she fell and was transported to the emergency room of Cochin hospital (Paris 14th), where she fell asleep in a box. She was awakened “through pain”. “I looked ahead and there I saw a scene of horror”she declared, specifying that a man had “his hand and two or three fingers buried deep in my vagina and he moved back and forth extremely hard and fast”. The attacker then fled, taking the victim's bank card.
Tuesday, at the start of the hearing, the bailiff presented the victim's torn tights to the court, with a gaping hole in the private parts. The public prosecutor had requested a sentence of 12 years of criminal imprisonment as well as a permanent ban from French territory and registration with the FIJAIS. The civil party's lawyers argued for a “firm criminal response”
facing “the devastating impact of this crime” on the victim.
“We demand compensation for her, but also for all women who have seen their lives destroyed by predators”insisted Me Laura Abecassis.
Four OQTFs since 2019
Faid Abdellah, during his interrogation Tuesday morning, multiplied contradictory statements, oscillating between “I don’t remember” and several versions of the facts. In tears, he eventually asked to remain silent, responding sporadically to the court's questions. The president of the court, Sabine Raczy, expressed her perplexity: “Which is true? The first, second, third or fourth version?”. The accused replied that “the real version is the one I told before the investigating judge, the last one”while admitting not “have the courage to repeat”.
The accused initially denied the facts during the investigation before admitting them at the end of the investigation. He explained that he had consumed “cocaine and cannabis” and raped the victim, thinking
“that he liked it” and that she “looked happy” et “All right”. “If she had screamed, I would have stopped”he added in court. Faid Abdellah, who had been subject to four orders to leave French territory (OQTF) since 2019, had already been sentenced in 2021 to one year in prison for violent theft.
