Catherine Séguin was officially appointed prefect of Isère, succeeding Louis Laugier, recently appointed Director General of the National Police. This appointment, approved by the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, November 6, marks an important step in the career of this senior civil servant.
Prefect of Oise since January 2023, Catherine Séguin is a woman of experience, having previously held similar positions in Gers and Loire. During her stay in the Loire, in the midst of a health crisis linked to Covid-19, she was able to stand out, according to our colleagues at Progress through its management of emergency plans, its transparent communication with local elected officials and the coordination of vaccination campaigns, demonstrating responsiveness in an unprecedented and particularly demanding context.
Isère and its more than 1.3 million inhabitants therefore represent a major new challenge for Catherine Séguin. This dynamic department is marked by varied issues, ranging from public security to the management of tourist flows, including economic development and environmental preservation. Daughter of former minister Philippe Seguin and married to Franck Robine, current chief of staff to Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau, Catherine Séguin will be able to draw on her background and her solid network to respond to the many challenges in Isère. Among which, the intense wave of armed violence, largely linked to rivalries between gangs for control of drug trafficking, which has overwhelmed the capital of the Alps and its surrounding areas since the summer.
