Two young men aged 22 and 24 were arrested by police officers from the departmental intervention company (CDI) in the city of Font-Vert, in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. A Kalashnikov-type rifle as well as a car reported stolen were seized, indicate sources close to the case, confirming information from
Provence.
It was a local resident who alerted the police after seeing two hooded men armed with a rifle. On site, the police spotted a car which matched the one described by the resident. A little further away, near the railway line which separates the city of Font-Vert and that of Marronniers, they found a Kalashnikov which was hidden in a cache.
An ammunition placed on the back seat
In a nearby parking lot, officials discovered a car reported stolen. An ammunition, believed to be 7.62 caliber, was placed on the back seat. Further on, they checked the two suspects who also matched the description given by the resident. The two young men, living in the 15th arrondissement, were arrested and placed in police custody. The weapon and the car were seized and will be the subject of analyses, in particular to determine whether they could have been used to commit a criminal act.
An investigation was opened into charges of “possession and transport of category A weapons and ammunition” and “criminal conspiracy”. The investigations were entrusted jointly to the interdepartmental judicial police service (SIPJ) and the local judicial police service (SLPJ).
