The roads
The department prioritizes its road network into three levels of intervention:
- level 1 processed 24 hours a day concerns national and international traffic such as the D1 which begins towards Saint-Julien-lès-Metz
- level 2 covers 1570 km like the D3 which crosses Burtoncourt
- level 3 includes 1980 km of road including the D38 which bypasses Dieuze
However, 80 km of roads will remain temporarily impassable. Signage will then be indicated to warn users.
On a metropolitan scale, the city of Metz is also responsible for snow removal from its network.
Numbers on the roads
Nearly 300 agents handle the 4,000 km of road network. 77 winter service vehicles clear snow from the roads. These trucks are equipped with digital radios with GPS for smooth communication and traffic. The agents are on-call in order to be able to intervene 24 hours a day. Traffic conditions are checked by winter service managers on patrol.
Snow removal from a road area takes approximately 3 hours. It is imperative to remember that a user must under no circumstances overtake these vehicles under penalty of a fine.
Vigilance on the road
Users will be able to be informed in real time of road conditions via the website www.inforoute57.fr. The site makes it possible to reveal to users the state of the roads thanks to the installation of cameras throughout the departmental road network. This device allows information to be relayed between users.
Finally, the winter period encourages users to equip their vehicles well and to be careful on the road. In Moselle, the Mountain law concerns certain municipalities close to the Vosges massif such as Bitche, Hottviller, Saint-Quirin.
