Two bodies were recovered on Tuesday November 5 in the Channel. The operational rescue and surveillance center in Gris-Nez (Pas-de-Calais) was alerted by a ferry which saw a body adrift.
The emergency services therefore diverted the Cormoran patrol boat of the French Navy and engaged the boat of the maritime and port security platoon ESMP03 of the Calais gendarmerie to carry out a search in the area described by the ferry crew.
Open investigation
At the beginning of the afternoon, two bodies were found by the Cormoran. “The two deceased people were picked up by the (gendarmerie) boat and dropped off at the dock in Calais,” informs the Cross. The bodies were then taken care of by the maritime gendarmerie and an investigation was opened by the Boulogne-sur-Mer public prosecutor's office.
Since the start of the year, 61 migrants have died during attempts to cross the Channel to reach England.
