Bullfighting prohibited for under 16s: first red light
#SENATE – Before its examination on November 14 in the National Assembly, the senators of the Law Committee largely rejected, this Wednesday, a bill from Senator Renaissance Samantha Cazebonne. Co-signed by around thirty elected officials from several groups, the text of the former member of the French constituency of Spain and Portugal proposes to ban “bullfighting and cockfighting in the presence of minors under 16 years of age”with the ambition of “protect minors from exposure to violence”. To justify the rejection, Horizons rapporteur Louis Vogel notably singled out the “disproportionate criminal sanctions” contained in the text, which could lead to up to five years of imprisonment and a fine of €75,000.
Social plan at Auchan: Languedoc affected
#ECONOMY – After Auchan Retail's announcement of a big cut in its workforce nationally, no less than 2,389 positions, we know a little more about the consequences for hypermarkets based in Languedoc. The Perpignan hypermarket will ultimately lose 14 positions. That of Auchan Pérols, near Montpellier, will lose 8. That of Béziers will have to part ways with 9 employees, that of Sète will see its workforce reduced by 8 people. “The one in Nîmes is not affected as it is a former Casino store”confides a union official. The plan announced by the management of Auchan Retail will target not only hypermarkets, but also supermarkets. We should therefore expect new announcements targeting them. The biggest job cuts in the region concern those of equipment sales sales advisors. The positions of those responsible for planning and managing the payroll, as well as the positions of those responsible for non-food commerce, are also affected.
Hiker finds shell in forest
#Gard – It was quite a discovery that a hiker made this Tuesday. While walking in the forest in the town of Générac, the man came across a strange object. Barely emerging from the ground, he discovered a German shell dating from the Second World War. The Gard gendarmerie went to the site to secure the scene, before a team of civil security deminers intervened in turn. Despite an explosive charge still present inside, the deminers were able to remove the ammunition without any difficulty. The object was then transported to a secure location for examination before being destroyed.
Drought: there is better
#HERAULT – After several weeks of tension on water resources, recent rains have brought a welcome respite to Hérault, particularly in areas located to the east of the department. Thanks to this precipitation, the prefect was able to adjust certain restrictions, marking a slight reduction for several watersheds in the department, while other sectors remain on heightened alert or even in crisis. The Cesse watershed benefits from a downgrading of its alert level, moving to “heightened alert”. The Hérault aval watershed has been downgraded to “vigilance”a sign of improving groundwater and surface water levels in these areas.
