What is chansign?
The chansigne is a poetic and theatrical interpretation of a text in sign language. It is not just a translation, but an interpretation. The person who practices chansign plays and transmits emotions through movements and sign language. A way to transcribe the rhythm and musicality of words to people who are hard of hearing or deaf.
A company from Rennes and specialized in signed shows
After the Danse des Signes company last year, the elected officials have programmed the Rennes company Albaricate this year. This group is made up of Clémence Colin and Samuel Genin.
Both of them put on their show Odysseus, cursed are you which mixes acoustic song French and sign language. Homer's famous song is punctuated by the guitar and the voice by Samuel Genin as well as by the signs and dance movements by Clémence Colin.
Ulysses and his odyssey
The plot of this show? After ten years of war in Troy, Odysseus takes another ten years to return to his island of Ithaca. Loved and cursed by the gods, loved and cursed by women, he sets sail to find his wife Penelope who, he thinks, is waiting for him at home. But the ocean is vast and full of dangers, and the arrogance of the warrior can sometimes be an enemy far worse than the cyclops or the mermaids.
Boy orchestra and girl chansigneuse
Albaricate, a boy orchestra and a girl singer, alternates songs filled withemotions and light texts. There guitar infinite repetition in a loop pedal and the chansigne raw will transport the viewer throughout Ulysses' journey, through the eyes of many characters from the Odyssey.
