A farmer from Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare (Hérault) was sentenced by the Béziers court on Tuesday November 5, 2024. By trying to arrest the individuals who had just robbed him, he had caused a road accident, reports France 3 Occitanie .
Last May, the man chased people who had stolen fuel from him. But when arriving at a bend, the logger hit the thugs' vehicle and the thugs ended up in a ditch, a little further on. Following this accident, the thieves filed a complaint against the farmer, explains Free Midday .
“It was not intentional”
During his court hearing, he admitted the facts, while ensuring that he did not want to cause an accident. “They ended up in the ditch, but it wasn’t intentional”said the farmer, after confiding that he had been the victim of repeated thefts since the creation of his business in 2023.
The defendant, who was able to count on the support of around forty of his colleagues during the hearing, was finally sentenced to a fine of €1,000 to be paid to the accident victims. However, this conviction will not appear on his criminal record. “This is not this farmer’s place. He is the victim. Not the others »protested the president of the Hérault chamber of agriculture, cited by Free Midday. For their part, the thieves received suspended fines.
