RSV bronchiolitis is the main cause of hospitalization in pediatrics; each year, 2 to 3% of children under the age of one are hospitalized for severe forms.
Vaccination and barrier gestures
Health authorities recommend vaccination and respect for barrier gestures. The RSV bronchiolitis prevention campaign started on September 15. There are currently two preventive treatments available to parents to reduce the risk of bronchiolitis in all newborns: Beyfortus® and Abrysvo®. Infants can be vaccinated against RSV with Beyfortus-precision: an injection thus offering almost immediate and prolonged protection throughout the epidemic season. Since this year, RSV infections can be prevented in pregnant women thanks to the Abrysvo vaccine, administered in the 8th month. It allows her to transmit antibodies to her baby via the placenta. “But the vaccine does not work immediately and the date of delivery must be taken into account”Dr. Cahn-Sellem explained to us.
