The show Praise of the Forestdirected by Patrick Scheyder, founder of the “cultural ecology” movement, offers an artistic approach to raise public awareness of ecology. As part of the tour, a performance is offered on Friday November 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., at the Salle Claude-Cottereau in Chailly-en-Bière (Seine-et-Marne).
A date for the show in praise of the forest in Seine-et-Marne
Conceived as a modern tale, this multidisciplinary show combines music, acting and video projections, to captivate spectators without falling into moralizing discourse. In collaboration with figures from culture and activism, Patrick Scheyder has imagined a show which transmits a “message of hope” and encourages us to see ecology from a “more complete, sensitive, complementary to scientific visions” angle.
This format also appealed to the mayor of Chailly-en-Bière, Alain Thiery, for whom the project is “obvious”: on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, the town also honors the memory of the artist and ecologist Théodore Rousseau, pioneer of forest protection.
Patrick Scheyder, a regular at these ecological shows, has for fifteen years evolved towards creations where music and theater mingle. Its ambition is to reach even those who are far from the ecological cause: “It is people who don't care about ecology that this show is aimed at”.
Although the show takes place mainly outdoors, it also adapts to indoor stages to capture the widest possible audience. It aims to be an intermediary between culture and activism, by offering humorous and positive awareness, avoiding catastrophic visions. Patrick Scheyder sees this approach as an invitation to rediscover ecology, not as an anxiety-inducing battle, but as an opportunity to reconnect with nature.
“Send a message that is as readable as possible”
Thomas Brail, climber arborist and founder of the National Tree Monitoring Group (GNSA), also accompanies the project. Known for his spectacular actions to protect trees, he wanted to explore gentler methods to get his message across. His meeting with Scheyder was decisive: “I said to myself, this is what we must do, send a message that is as readable as possible.”
Thomas Brail, trained in theater, felt no apprehension for the stage and is delighted with the success of the show, which is generating more and more requests for performances across France.
After performances at the Académie du Climat and the Gaîté Lyrique, the show begins a tour, including Grenoble and Chailly-en-Bière. Designed by Patrick Scheyder, with the support of Brail and Iman Morin, composer for Damsothe performance of The Praise of the Forest is organized by the section GNSA of Fontainebleau.
The performance on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., will be held at the Salle Claude Cottereau in Chailly-en-Bière.
