Catherine Beaufort, pen name of the Chaumont-born writer Elisabeth Scotland-Westley (Le JHM of June 4), was passing through Haute-Marne last week. She was in Vouécourt on Thursday May 30, at the restaurant Les Inattendues, a little nod to her novels in which she describes uncertain and above all unexpected periods so well, always on the theme of travel.

After lunch she was able to sign her latest book, “The Yellow Fish”, which germinated in her mind at the very beginning of the coronavirus, during a trip to China, which marks a period of uncertainty but also of the unexpected.

The writer, whose real name is Elisabeth école-Westley, was born in Chaumont. She studied at the Bouchardon high school in Chaumont from 1962 to 1968. She lived in Froncles until 1971, when she decided to go to England, first with a friend. She marries an Englishman. For eleven years, they worked to be able to buy their plane tickets and take numerous trips. In England, she taught as a French teacher, notably at Thomas’Prep School, where George and Charlotte, the children of Prince William, heir to the English throne and Duchess Kate, studied. During this period she organized trips, each year, to France with her students, to different regions, notably to Froncles where she kept close ties in the person of Martine Cornu. Her students were housed with the inhabitants, very beautiful memories for her and for the children, today she would like to thank the towns of Froncles, Provéché-sur-Marne and the surrounding villages for their very friendly welcome at the time. .
