Villeneuve-sur-Lot: a professional immersion for middle school students from 47

Every year, the Salon Ambition et Avenir brings together thousands of middle school students in Villeneuve-sur-Lot for a week dedicated to orientation. Intended for 3rd grade students, this event allows them to discover the professions, training and sectors that structure the economic landscape of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The 2024 edition, scheduled for November 18 to 22, is no exception to the rule: nearly 4,000 middle school students are expected for a total immersion in the heart of the professions of tomorrow.

Designed as “a real chance for young people to get a feel for professional reality”the show is spread over around fifteen professional areas, students will be able to discover the sectors in tension and the training courses accessible after the 3rd year, whether general, technological or professional. Practical workshops, demonstrations and virtual reality immersions will punctuate the week. Objective: to enable young people to better understand the expectations of the job market and to refine their career choices.

Family exploration

If the event is primarily intended for students, on Wednesday November 20, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., it will open its doors more widely to the public. “It’s a great opportunity for families to join in this discovery,” supports the organization. During this half-day, parents, but also job seekers, head teachers and career development advisors will also be able to benefit from the stands, demonstrations and meetings with professionals.

One of the specificities of the show remains the importance given to direct exchanges between young people and professionals. Round tables in the form of “speed dating” will allow middle school students to discuss in small groups with experts from different sectors. “We want these meetings to be as interactive as possible, so that young people can ask all their questions and plan their career path more easily.”

Mobilization in the service of guidance

The success of this event is based on rigorous organization and strong mobilization. More than 100 actors-teachers, students, apprentices, guidance counselors and professionals will be present throughout the week to support young people in their discovery of careers. “Orientation is a key stage in the lives of college students, it is important that they are well supported to make informed choices,” underlines a show host. Salon Ambition et Avenir also wants to play an essential role in raising awareness of the needs of the local job market. Sectors such as industry, new technologies and even crafts will be widely represented, with demonstrations and discussions for each aimed at giving students a clear vision of the skills sought. In short, in a context where the professional future of young people is a growing concern, the show poses as an event to watch for young people.
