A man was arrested this Tuesday, November 26 after stabbing a woman in the village of Wasigny in the Ardennes. Children from the neighboring school were confined for a good part of the morning.

A man was arrested this Tuesday, November 26 in the village of Wasigny in the Ardennes. According to information from the newspaper l'Ardennais, which France 3 confirms, this man stabbed a 26-year-old woman near the primary school. His police custody was extended, specifies the Charleville-Mézières Public Prosecutor's Office, Tuesday evening, and confirms the absence of marital ties with the victim.

The victim is not the partner of his attacker. According to witnesses on site, it could be a conflict between people from the Traveler community.

The gendarmerie surveillance and intervention platoon (PSIG) was engaged on site. Children at the school were confined as a precaution.

“It’s very surprising. There may be neighborhood conflicts but then, getting to this level was unthinkable”says Pascal Bonaque, deputy mayor of Wasigny.

“Everyone is shocked. The victim was someone well-known in the village, she took her children to school every morning”he continues. It was while taking his children to school this morning that the incident allegedly occurred.

The events took place on rue Basse, in Wasigny. “I was told that something was happening in front of the primary school. We locked ourselves away because we didn’t know”testifies a resident of the town of 300 inhabitants.

The victim was taken to hospital. The severity of his injuries remains unknown at this time. “but his days are not in danger”, according to the Charleville-Mézières prosecutor, Magalie Josse. The individual, known to the police, was arrested. An investigation has been opened.
