The installation of five commercial brands in the La Prade economic activity zone, in La Souterraine (Creuse), was on the agenda of the community council of the Pays Sostranien, this Monday, November 4, 2024. Action and But stores should notably open their doors in early 2026.
The news testifies to “the vitality and attractiveness of the territory”, believes Etienne Lejeune, president of the community of communes of the Sostranian country. The Prade Economic Activity Zone (ZAE), located on the edge of the RN 145, in La Souterraine, should welcome five new stores at the start of 2026.
Arrivals of Action and Purpose, move from Lidl
The subject was on the agenda of the community council, Monday November 4, 2024, the land concerned belonging to the intercommunality. The assembly gave its approval to discussions prior to the sale of the plots.
A fast-food restaurant and a pet products business could open in the area. And the Lidl supermarket, currently located at 4, rue du Docteur Georges-Marlaud, should also move there, in larger premises.
Above all, indicates Etienne Lejeune, the very popular hard-discount brand Action and the furniture store chain But have both “expressed their intention to set up in the area”.
Around fifty jobs could be created
Good news for the mayor of La Souterraine who underlines:
The offers offered by these brands do not exist locally
As a result, these “will not compete with businesses in the city center,” continues the elected official. He also assures that around “fifty jobs” could be created with the development of the commercial zone.
Brigitte Jammot, member of the opposition and vice-president of Health and Social Affairs, is less enthusiastic. “I am not against the arrival of new brands. But I wonder about sharing the “cake”, if the number of brands increases while the number of inhabitants remains the same. We are only a small com-com of 10,000 inhabitants. I hope everyone will be able to work. » She adds: “It’s a bet.”

Com-com provides support to the design and water sectors
Other important subjects discussed during the last community council of the Sostranian Country: the development of sectors already well established locally, design and water.
Regarding design, elected officials unanimously voted for a grant of 100,000 euros allocated by the State to help finance a project manager position for three years
. The latter will work on the structuring and development of the sector.
“We want to move up a gear in this area,” comments the president of the community of municipalities, Etienne Lejeune. We have a wonderful tool: the Raymond-Loewy high school, which is being renovated and expanded. Students will be able to work in good conditions. We would like young people coming out of training to be able to settle here and recognized professionals to be able to come to residence.”
100,000 euros for OiEau
The council also voted unanimously for the adoption of a roadmap concerning the structuring of the water sector. A decision associated with the payment of a subsidy of 100,000 euros awarded by the intercommunality to the International Water Office (OiEau), an association which has a major training site, focused on water treatment and its supply , at La Souterraine.
“This aid will be used to expand the premises of OiEau, which is carrying out a major development project, particularly in terms of training. The State and the region should also provide financial support for the operation,” indicates Etienne Lejeune.
On the opposition side, Brigitte Jammot, elected from La Souterraine, gave her approval to the release of funds. While emphasizing the amount of subsidy: “It is important to develop this sector. But the amount that we allocate to OiEau caught my attention. This is a big contribution to the finances of a small community of municipalities. Especially since OiEau has self-financing capabilities.”
The position must be co-financed by the community of communes of the Pays Sostranien, the State and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.Francois Delotte
