the regional council announces several investments for local health

Despite the tense context for community finances, the Region has voted on several budgets for local health. Medical students, in particular, will be better supported.

For several years, the regional council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur has initiated massive investments in the field of care. We can, for example, recall the opening of health homes (18.1 million euros), the modernization of eight public establishments (21.5 million euros), support for the installation of general practitioners (635,041 euros) or the 107 million euros annual budget for the operation of training sites (+36% in five years).

During the plenary assembly on Friday October 25, elected officials voted in favor of new projects supported by the majority of President Renaud Muselier: the amount exceeds 2.7 million euros.

More than 300,000 euros for healthcare homes

The first part of this sum must be used to directly support four health centers. Via works first of all, in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (41,520 euros), and in Ginasservis, in the (259,324 euros). Digital and medical equipment will also be purchased for the Milles establishment in Aix-en-Provence (6,093 euros) and for that of Pertuis, in (5,791 euros).

In order to fight against medical deserts, there is also a question of helping a doctor to settle in the village of Chorges, in the Hautes-Alpes, in return for a check for 1,946 euros. This is the 30th professional supported by the Region.

Students better supported

To improve the living and working environment of students during their internships, a dedicated place will be created in the Jean-Marcel hospital center in Brignoles. Living spaces, twenty bedrooms and ten studios will be created. A project aimed at young trainee doctors within the establishment, but also at students of paramedical training (IBODE, IADE, midwifery, etc.).

This construction is supported by the Provence Verdon urban community, but also supported by the regional authority to the tune of 1.2 million euros. The interns benefit from a scholarship. Since 2017, this aid has been aimed at future general practitioners in areas with medical under-density.

More resources for interns

Over its seven years of existence, the fund has mobilized 610,800 euros, a total co-financed by the regional health agency. This year, the Region has expanded the system, in particular with the contribution of the European social fund. From now on, there will be 80 scholarship holders per year in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, which will bring their ranks to 400 until 2028, for an amount of 1.2 million euros.

Investments included in the approximately 710 million euros budget promised by the Region over the period 2021-2028.
