The cause of the student poisonings that occurred in the town of Fère-Champenoise (Marne) remains to be identified.

The authorities are taking stock of the situation this weekend and note that no child has been hospitalized since June 4.

No less than five hypotheses have so far been ruled out.

Since May 30, students at the Fère-Champenoise primary and nursery school, in the south of the Marne, have been affected by a series of health problems. Around thirty students and adults suffered from headaches, nausea and itching. Poisonings of unknown origin which worry the families on site.

This Friday, the Marne prefecture takes stock of the investigations. In a press release, she notes that the health authorities, “in collaboration with various specialized organizations”remain mobilized to “identify the cause of these discomforts”. It should also be emphasized that “since June 4”there is no “no more children taken care of in hospital”while no new reports have been declared.

Multiple hypotheses ruled out

Five avenues, since the investigations began, have been ruled out so far:

  1. No toxic infection food or contamination from the water fountain;
  2. None Chemical product detected by the recognition devices of the Metz firefighters;
  3. No identification of a allergenic plant essence Or of irritating species ;
  4. None human or agricultural activity is not suspected by the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing;
  5. The hypothesis of a carbon monoxide poisoning is excluded.

The authorities are continuing their work to identify the Source of these poisonings. Of the “epidemiological and health investigations” are carried out, specifies the prefecture, with “survey of families and adults concerned”. Devices for measuring indoor and outdoor air quality are installed. Their deployment is scheduled for June 10.

The reopening of schools will be decided after receiving the results of ongoing research.
