Killed with a knife in Rennes: after admitting the facts, an 18-year-old placed in detention

It was 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, November 2, on the footbridge overlooking the railway tracks, near the University Hospital, when an argument broke out. A 19-year-old boy faces two men when one of them stabs him three times. The other assailant then made him fall and then hit him on the legs and face. Rescued by witnesses, the victim was taken to the emergency room where she died shortly after. A new significant event in the Breton capital, already in the spotlight following the bullet wound of a five-year-old child, a week earlier, against a backdrop of war between drug traffickers.

This new murder experienced a twist the same day: around 10 p.m., an 18-year-old man presented himself at the Rennes police station and admitted to being the author of the stabbings. “He admitted to having wanted to settle “a dispute” with the victim, without specifying what nature, and that, to do this, he had bought a knife shortly before the facts”, indicated, Monday, Frédéric Teillet, prosecutor of the Republic, in a press release. Faced with the police, he then remained silent during the remainder of the police custody.

A man still wanted

The alleged perpetrator of the stabbing has already been convicted three times by the Rennes children's court for aggravated theft and for offenses linked to drug trafficking. At the request of the prosecution, which opened an investigation for murder, the young person was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention this Monday.

The autopsy revealed that the deceased youth suffered fatal injuries to his heart and liver. He was also known for acts relating to drugs, specifies the prosecutor. The scene of the murder is also known to be a deal point. But, if these elements suggest a settling of scores, the link with drug trafficking has not yet been established at this stage of the investigation. “The instruction will aim to clarify it.” The other man, who struck the victim on the ground, is still actively sought.
