Lyon customs officers made a very large seizure of nearly a ton of ecstasy on Thursday at a toll booth on the A7, around fifty kilometers south of Lyon, the Vienna prosecutor's office announced on Monday, November 4. The van was intercepted at the Reventin-Vaugris toll with a cargo of 963 kg of ecstasy, according to Vienna prosecutor Olivier Rabot. The value of this seizure is estimated between 15 and 20 million euros.
“The driver was of Spanish nationality”, said the prosecutor, who explained that he had withdrawn from the case on Sunday in favor of the Paris prosecutor's office. This seizure of 963 kg represents approximately 2 million doses of ecstasy, almost double the total quantity seized by French customs nationally for the year 2023.
Questioned by AFP, customs were not authorized to communicate about this seizure. On May 1, more than a million ecstasy tablets, or 542 kg, were seized by the gendarmes in two vehicles traveling in the Drôme. Four people were indicted.
