THE Rocamadour Festival revealed the program for its 19e edition, organized from August 15 to 26, 2024. The festival Batch welcomes this year the famous tenor Roberto Alagnathe violinist – a regular at the festival – Renaud CapuçonTHE soprano Bruno de Sáthe English ensemble Tenebrae Choir

On an air of hope in Rocamadour

“Firma spes ut rupes”, hope firm as a rock. This is the motto of Rocamadour which inspires the theme of this new edition of the Festival.

The first note will resonate at the foot of the city on Thursday August 15 with Roberto Alagna, one of the greatest tenors of our time, who will perform these sacred and operatic arias known to all (Franz Schubert, Georges Bizet, Giuseppe Verdi, Jacques Offenbach…). Melodies, which we have all hummed or sung, carry within them hope and comfort. The next day, Friday August 16, still outdoors in the Alzou Valley, theConsuelo Orchestra directed by Victor Julien-Laferrière will offer a masterful interpretation of Beethoven’s famous fifth symphony.

Return to the basilica on Saturday August 17 with Renaud Capuçon in a piano and string quartet to celebrate the birthday of Fauré, a composer described as a musician of light and hope.

On August 18 and 19, The Gesualdo Six and Tenebrae Choir will transport the public through two spatial programs, celebrating hope and inspiring the future, with the quality of which only they have the secret.

Baroque lovers will find theOrchestra of the Royal Opera of Versailles directed by Chloé de Guillebon in Les Leçons de Ténèbres by Couperin on Tuesday August 20, theSet Matches on Thursday August 22 under the baton of Sébastien Daucé, in a recital of Danish court music with the viola Lucile Richardot, and finally, the surprising Bruno de Sá in the famous Stabat Mater by Pergolèse alongside Paul Figuier and the Accents on Saturday August 24.

No coincidence, the Company the Tempest returns to breathe his brilliant spirit into their Azahar program for an extraordinary experience around Machaut and Stravinsky, when opposites attract, hope shines. The unmissable piano recital will be provided by David Fray in the Goldberg Variations, a monumental work in the repertoire. Excursion to Treyne Castle where Eva Zaicik will take us on Armenian paths. Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale de Gent will perform madrigals including Monteverdi, Marenzio, Rossi… To close the chapter of this 19e edition, theTogether the Sportelle will provide the highlight of the show and will take us on a path of peace and hope with the Litany to the Black Virgin by Poulenc and the Requiem by Fauré.

Without forgetting the organ moments by Nicola Procaccini, a young organist who demonstrated all his talent in his album Reflets sur l’air for the Rocamadour Label, Les Itinérantes will guide spectators through the night From Earth to Heaven on the Chemin de Croix and the tenor Enguerrand de Hys and the pianist Paul Beynet will captivate us with their Mystical Tales during the day.
