A 38-year-old man had his leg amputated after being accidentally shot by a shoemaker in Bormes-les-Mimosas on Wednesday, while picking mushrooms. An investigation has been opened.

A 38-year-old man had to undergo a leg amputation following a hunting accident, this Wednesday, October 30 in Bormes-les-Mimosas, according to information from -Matin, confirmed by BFM Var from police sources.

The thirty-year-old, father of a family and resident of Giens, was picking mushrooms with two friends near the Cabasson road. Around 9 a.m., in an area authorized for pedestrians, he was the victim of an accidental shooting by an 82-year-old hunter.

The victim was hit while he was about twenty meters from the group of hunters. Evacuated by helicopter to La Timone hospital (), the man is currently in a stationary state.

An open investigation

Member of a Bormian hunting association, the octogenarian, presumed perpetrator of the shooting, was participating in a wild boar hunt. After being interviewed by the gendarmes in police custody, he was released the same evening.

An investigation into “unintentional violence with a weapon” has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.

According to information from Var-Matin, the facts could be reclassified as “involuntary violence with a weapon leading to permanent disability”, given the consequences for the victim.
