Two men appeared before the criminal court of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), Thursday October 31, 2024, for extortion and violence at gunpoint for one, and complicity for the other. One of them set a trap for the man he suspected of being his wife's lover and his friend took money from him under threat, reports South West.
The events occurred on the night of September 9 to 10. The victim had gone to a home in Moragne, thinking of being invited by the wife of one of the defendants, says the local newspaper. Threatened with a knife, the man ended up recognizing his relationship with the latter.
Nine months in prison
Without the husband knowing it, his accomplice then agreed to a « arrangement » with the victim. After taking her by car to an isolated area, he made her believe that he had been hired to kill her, by pretending to have a gun, our colleagues report. To get by, she agreed to give him €1,800. The two men then joined the third in Moragne and made him believe that the victim was ultimately not his wife's lover, but someone who sold him drugs. Two days later, the latter filed a complaint.
At the hearing, both defendants denied the facts. It was upon discovering what happened during the evening that the husband learned that his wife had really cheated on him. He was released for complicity in extortion, but sentenced for complicity in violence to nine months in prison with suspended probation. The other defendant was found guilty of all the charges and received 18 months in prison, nine of which were closed with a committal warrant, note South West.
