A Pokémon card collector based in (Essonne) was the victim of a burglary, the loss of which is estimated at around €200,000. The thirty-year-old, who had nevertheless stored his cards in a sealed safe, filed a complaint on Wednesday October 30, 2024. A police investigation was opened.

A resident of Palaiseau (Essonne) filed a complaint on Wednesday October 30, 2024 after being the victim of a burglary. As recounted The Parisian this collector aged around thirty had around sixty Pokémon cards stolen which were all stored in a closed chest inside his apartment.

“Well-informed” thieves

“The authors were undoubtedly well informed of what they were going to find”indicated a police source to our colleagues. The value of the stolen cards is estimated at €150,000. But the total damage should exceed €200,000 because the thirty-year-old also had cash, computer equipment, car keys stolen, etc. A police investigation was opened.

Due to their rarity, certain Pokémon cards are both highly prized by collectors… and thieves. In June 2023, a Breton man was attacked at his home, in the middle of the night, for his collection of more than 100,000 Pokémon cards. Three men were sentenced to prison terms last February.
