Come meet bestselling author and academician Jean-Christophe Rufinon November 19 in Avrillé (Maine-et-Loire), Brassens cultural center. He will be present for a signing session on the occasion of the publication of his latest travel diary “On the Amazon River”.
Writer, humanitarian and academician
Jean-Christophe Rufin is a French doctor, writer and diplomat.
In 1985, Jean-Christophe Rufin became the medical director ofAction Against Hunger (ACF) in Ethiopia.
In 1997 he received the Goncourt Prize of the first novel for The Abyssinian and, in 2001, the Prix Goncourt for his historical novel Red Brazil.
He was elected in 2008 to the French Academyof which he then became the youngest member. Former president of Action Against Hunger from 2002 to 2006, he was Ambassador of France to Senegal and the Gambia.
As a doctor, Jean-Christophe Rufin is one of the pioneers of the humanitarian movement Médecins sans frontières2 (MSF).
On August 3, 2007, he was appointed French ambassador to Senegal and the Gambia on the proposal of Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
