You can build anything with a 3D printer… jewelry, tools and even housing!

In Mériel (Val-d'Oise), in 2026, twenty-one houses comprising forty social rental apartments will emerge not from the ground, but from a 3D printing factory.

Manufactured on an assembly line, these modular constructions will then be transported by exceptional convoy at the end of 2025, then deposited and assembled on Avenue Victor-Hugo.

Less nuisance

Carried by the departmental public office Val-d’Oise Habitat (Voh), this innovative off-site social housing project will reduce the duration of the construction site and the nuisance for local residents. 70% of the construction will be carried out in the factory. The remaining 30%, on site, will concern the foundations, roads, green spaces, exterior passageways and staircases, as well as the roofing and facades.

In each house, there will be a single-storey T2 apartment, on the ground floor, and a T3 upstairs, accessible from a passageway on the front. Forty parking spaces will also be made available to tenants.

Biosourced materials will be used in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint. Thus, future houses will have a metal or wooden structure, wooden cladding facades and mixed wood and aluminum exterior joinery. The roof will be tiled.

Modular housing

“The objective of this program is to integrate harmoniously into an urban fabric that is predominantly residential,” explains Voh.

Financed by the Île-de- Public Land Establishment (Epfif), the State, the Banque des Territoires, Action Logement and the City of Mériel, the modular social housing project amounts to more than 8 million euros (77% loans, 18% equity and 5% grants).

“This project will promote social diversity and meets the expectations of local communities,” adds the social landlord. We can observe an additional cost compared to traditional operations which is linked to innovation. This experiment is intended to serve us for future operations. »

For now, Voh is carrying out consultations to appoint the construction company. Work will begin immediately, in the first half of 2025.
