Two years before the next municipal elections, the Eiffel Tower is at the heart of a new political clash between Anne Hidalgo and Rachida Dati, who combines her role as Minister of Culture with that of mayor of the 7th arrondissement of the capital. Anne Hidalgo, who expressed her wish to see the Olympic rings remain on the facade of the Parisian monument, was slapped on the wrist by the minister, who affirmed that the decision was not up to her. And the elected LR to counterattack publicly, by asking that the Eiffel Tower be classified as a historic monument, which would lead to restoration work financed by the State and reinforced surveillance. Anne Hidalgo was obviously opposed to it. Arguing that the tower is already well protected, she highlights the financial waste that this initiative would represent in the current context of debt.

The only candidate declared to date for mayor of Paris, Rachida Dati seeks to assert herself on a highly symbolic subject against her socialist competitor who still leaves doubt about her candidacy for the next municipal elections, for what would be her third mandate. Will go, won't go? Will she give way to her first deputy Patrick Bloche, to Paris senator Rémi Féraud, also president of the “Paris en commun” group, or to Lamia El Aaraje, her deputy at town hall, who also heads the Parisian federation of PS?
The only declared candidate to date for Paris town hall, Rachida Dati seeks to assert herself on a highly symbolic subject against her competitor.
Reappointed to the Ministry of Justice, Rachida Dati seeks to ride this period of uncertainty on the PS side to relaunch her candidacy, after seeing her Macronist support falter following the dissolution of the National Assembly. Sylvain Maillard, president of the Renaissance federation in Paris, announced that the presidential party would have its own candidate for the next municipal elections, who could be nominated by Parisian activists in early 2025.
