The renovation of the schools agitates Croissy-Beaubourg. Wednesday October 16, 2024, Michel Gérèsthen still mayor of the town, organized a public meeting to reassure parents and teachers.
Everyone was concerned about the waiting time and working conditions of children in Les Lions de Beaubourg and Alfred Chartier schools. Many parents demanded answers about the progress of the renovations.
Renovate, secure and improve comfort
Of the insulation work were planned in the two schools in order to reduce energy costs with the installation of photovoltaic panels. To secure the two schools, the height of the fences must be increased.
It is also a question of improving indoor comfort, particularly for the Les Lions de Beaubourg elementary school, while teachers and parents criticized the excessively high indoor temperature in summer and, conversely, excessively low during the winter period.
In the courtyard of the Lions of Beaubourg, vegetated points should be installed to create an island of freshness.
The Alfred Chartier nursery school also benefits from a extension of its refectory and the kitchen with in particular the construction of ano self-service line and a cold room. The dining room would no longer accommodate 110 children but almost 160 students.
The architect of the Alfred-Chartier school wanted to explain the frequency of the work. These are prioritized on Saturdays and Wednesdays, as well as during school holidays. However, to deliver the school on time, certain work can take place during the week but with the rule of “make no noise during the children's nap periods”.
Late deadlines
The Alfred-Chartier nursery school construction site took time delay in startupfollowing the discovery of problems with the foundations. The architects chose to install pious screwed into the ground, produced by a single company in France.
The construction site was therefore not able to start in September but in December 2023. Today, all that remains is to renovate dormitories and classrooms. The work is expected to end in mid-December.
On the elementary school side, problems have also emerged. Indeed, the children had to be moved to modular buildings, after the discovery asbestos in the foundations. It was therefore necessary to remove this material and resolve the problems subsidence in certain places of the building.
The demolition phase is currently almost complete. The end of all the work on the elementary school is scheduled for August 2025.
Opposition municipal councilor Maurice Amato regrets “that we are not starting with something new, the pipes will remain old pipes”.
Due to a lack of understanding between city council members and the public, tempers grew heated. However, the architects were able to provide solutions to any problems raised by the parents and teachers present.
