In Haute-Vienne, no need for snow tires, but if you travel, the regulations change

The Mountain Law regulations do not apply in Haute-, but if you are traveling in a concerned department, you will need to equip yourself with specific tires.

Since Friday November 1, several departments have been subject to the Mountain Law. Between November 1 and March 31, it is obligatory to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have chains, in certain municipalities in the mountainous areas.

In Haute-Vienne, no obligation, but if you take the road towards certain departments concerned, you will need to equip yourself. In total, 34 departments are concerned in the Alps, Corsica, the Massif Central, the Jura massif, the Pyrenees, as well as the Vosges massif.

Only 3PMSF tires recognized

In these departments, motorists were asked to equip themselves with tires stamped “M + S” (Mud & Snow) or “3PMSF” (3 Peak Mountain snowflake). However, they are now considered summer tires.

Only “3PMSF” approved tires must henceforth be used. They are identifiable by the presence of the “Alpine symbol” marking, illustrated by a mountain with three peaks containing a snowflake.

Another solution is to have metal or textile chains, more commonly called snow socks.

Reduced access, but no verbalization

But what do we risk? For the moment, no national fines have been deployed, since the decree relating to fines has not been signed. On the other hand, access to certain areas may be prohibited by public authorities. Insurers may also not cover possible damage in the event of an accident.
