Consumption. A case of botulism in Isère: terrines recalled

The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency received, on October 31, 2024, a report of suspected botulism, in a person who had consumed a pork terrine produced on the farm, by the EARL Les peupliers au Mottier, we learn from the Isère prefecture.

The national reference center for botulism, at the Institut Pasteur, carried out an analysis of the remains of the implicated pork terrine, and confirmed the presence of botulinum toxin and the bacteria producing the toxin.

“The Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations of Isère (DDPP) immediately carried out investigations with the manufacturer of these canned foods.

The production conditions do not make it possible to guarantee the sterilization of the jars, a recall of all the jars manufactured was therefore decided immediately as a precaution. The recall concerns a few dozen jars, put on sale at the “Chez Barbier” farm, chemin de la Combelatière,” the press release continues.

“Given the incubation time (from a few hours to a few days) and the serious nature of the disease, people who have consumed these products are called upon to exercise the greatest vigilance and to consult a doctor in the event of symptoms (disorders of vision, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, difficulty speaking) when mentioning this alert. People who still have these products are asked not to consume them, not to open them, and to throw them away. »
