No more reservations for residents of Sables-d'Olonne who wanted to go to the Vendée Globe village. They now have a pass.
This is the announcement made on social networks by the mayor of the City, Yannick Moreau.
“Faced with the long queues to enter the village, then the queues to access the pontoon”, he explains that he “asked to increase the public reception level on the Vendée Globe pontoon and to allow the Sablais and visitors to freely enter the village without prior registration.
Probably fewer people next week
And added: “This seems all the more reasonable to me as next week will no longer be a school vacation period and the crowds will necessarily be different. »
A request heard in part by the organizers since residents of the Sables-d'Olonne conurbation are now exempt from registering on the internet prior to any visit to the village.
A “special riverside” pass was designed for them. All they have to do is present it to the security agents and volunteers controlling access to the village gates.

A reservation system that was not wanted by the mayor
In his announcement, the mayor and president of the agglomeration took the opportunity to share his feelings about this online registration and QR code system set up by Saem Vendée and the Department for this 10e edition of the race:
We make do with it… From the start it's not my cup of tea but it's not the City of Sables-d'Olonne which decides the terms of access to the village.
He clearly shows his disapproval regarding this initiative which had the objectives of regulate and smooth the crowds.
It is clear, since October 19, that this reservation system did not fulfill its mission since the long queues at the entrance to the village keep people talking…
