In Haute-Loire, as in the Loire, we will remember this month of October 2024 for a very long time with its torrential rains and floods which had devastating effects on both departments.
However, a few days before this deluge, Météonews had recorded a nice 22.9 degrees in Puy-en-Velay; hottest day of this month of October, 2 degrees higher than seasonal averages. We were far, very far, from the slight 0.4 degrees of Saturday October 5 in the morning; coldest morning of the month…
Very heavy precipitation
Beyond the temperatures, it is the rainfall that will have left its mark, with 67% more precipitation compared to a, shall we say, “normal” month of October.
In the Puy-en-Velay agglomeration, 112.3 mm of water fell with much more precipitation on the edge of the Ardèche. In Estables for example, 560 mm of water fell during the month while the average is 145 mm.
Drier November with plenty of sunshine
If October will leave bad memories, November already promises to be calmer, more clement… Like these last days of October, which were sunny to say the least thanks to a fortunate anticyclone.
According to Christophe Mertz, meteorologist at Météonews, the Haute-Loire department should experience fairly dry weather with good sunshine until November 15. No rain on the horizon.
The start of the week will remain mild, even very mild, before a significant drop in temperatures which will nevertheless remain 3 to 4 degrees above seasonal norms. Even if we will have to deal with gray mornings which will very quickly give way to beautiful days dominated by blue skies.
