COMPANY. Road checks continue during the “accident-prone” All Saints’ Day weekend, throughout Haute-.

Thursday October 31, at the exit of Saint-Dizier, at the start of the D 520, on the sidelines of a road check (read our November 1 edition), sub-prefect Laurent Guillemot gave some figures: road accidents caused 506 deaths throughout the in 2023, or 7% more than in 2022. In Haute-Marne, there have already been 18 deaths on the roads in 2024, compared to fourteen in 2023. So, the State representative insists on the need to maintain pressure, particularly during the long “accident-prone” All Saints’ Day weekend.

The danger of using the phone while driving

Thursday October 31, under the leadership of Philippe De Brito, second in command of the Saint-Dizier police station, seven officials were mobilized for an inspection targeting both heavy goods vehicles and light vehicles. “We focus on distractive actions, the use of the telephone, screens, we are vigilant about that, especially when we know that, with the use of cell phones, we increase the risk of accident, it’s not neutral,” says Laurent Guillemot.

Cautionary instructions reminded to all motorists, throughout Haute-Marne, during the weekend. Friday, November 1, at the beginning of the afternoon, the sub-prefect gave the first figures, the result of around ten checks in both the police zone and the gendarmerie zone: out of 140 vehicles checked, for 193 people, 69 screenings were carried out with two positive for alcohol and one for narcotics. Fourteen traffic violations were noted (lack of technical inspection, insurance or failure to wear a seat belt).
