Since January 1, 2024, 34 people have lost their lives on our roads.
As the All Saints' Day weekend approaches, the Haute-Savoie prefecture is sounding the alarm. Following a tragic series of accidents, with six deaths in October, the authorities are strengthening controls to guarantee the safety of users.
A worrying report
Since the start of the year, Haute-Savoie has recorded 34 deaths on its roads. A figure which slightly exceeds that of 2023 at the same period. This finding remains all the more alarming given that 62% of the victims were vulnerable users, pedestrians, cyclists and scooter users. A proportion sharply increasing compared to the previous year, when they represented only 33% of deaths.
Call for caution
On the eve of this long weekend, traditionally marked by a high volume of traffic, the prefect therefore calls on all drivers to exercise caution and scrupulously respect the Highway Code. Law enforcement will be particularly active to prevent dangerous behavior. Speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and using the telephone while driving will be scrutinized in particular.
Increased risks with the transition to winter time
The time change, which coincides with All Saints' Day, often leads to an increase in accidents. In the days following the time change, the prefecture noted a 32% increase in accidents involving pedestrians between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
