Faced with the proliferation of fraudulent sales practices in several recently established stores with precarious leases, the Gard department calls on consumers to be extremely vigilant.
Beware of scams. The departmental directorate for population protection (DDPP) of Gard warned consumers, Wednesday October 30, of a well-established technique used by certain traders to encourage purchases, reports Free Midday. Recently, several stores with precarious leases for the sale of furniture have in fact set up in the department and use a similar process. After a telephone call, the sellers invite their contacts via letter to go to the store to collect a gift. If a gift is indeed waiting in store, a team of professional salespeople is also present to offer to acquire the goods on display while rushing the sale, indicates the DDPP.
It is only once the time of payment comes that fraud appears when the high price of the product appeals to the buyer. This is when the most seasoned sellers enter the fray by offering attractive discounts to encourage finalization of the order.
The importance of comparing prices upstream
Faced with this sales technique deemed fraudulent, the Gard prefecture therefore advises consumers to be vigilant and to have a critical eye regarding the generosity of the discounts granted for the purchase of a product. As for the sales price charged by sellers, the organization invites people affected by this sales practice to compare the prices charged by other businesses before signing any purchase order.
As for those who have already signed a purchase order, all is not lost. As the DDPP recalls, “the law protects you“. “In the event of signing a purchase order, the seller is prohibited from collecting, under any pretext, and in any form, a sum of money before the expiration of a period of seven days“. Thus, in order to withdraw from the sale, the consumer must detach and complete the withdrawal slip located on the order form. Sent to the address indicated by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, he thus ends the sale “Please note, you should carefully keep the acknowledgment of receipt which will prove the termination of the contract before the judge.“, specifies the DDPP.
