Circular economy and job creation for Reunion Islanders
October 31
“I usually say that our model is win-win-win” explains Constance Idrac, partner and co-founder of ReFé. “Win for consumers, the planet and the local economy.”
Refurbished phones are increasingly appealing to Reunion Islanders, offering high-end models at prices 30% lower than new devices, while reducing environmental impact. Currently, around 30,000 refurbished mobiles are imported each year, highlighting the need to promote local skills and guarantee quality after-sales service. ReFé aims to establish a circular ecosystem on the island, integrating the return, reconditioning and repair of smartphones. Its ambition is to avoid more than 60 tonnes of CO2 during its first year of activity, while contributing to local sustainable development.
“With ReFé we have 3 objectives, to contribute sustainably to local development, to offer the people of Reunion Island quality reconditioned products with a guarantee provided locally and to reduce digital waste by offering them a second life” explains Yvan Tourneux, partner and Director of RéFé.
ReFé only offers grade A+ devices, rigorously controlled, with more than 60 verification points, and systematically replaces batteries with new high-capacity ones. With a 2-year warranty on all its products, ReFé is committed to offering quality equipment, while reducing digital waste. By collaborating with partners like Microstor and Back2Buzz, ReFé is establishing itself as an innovative local brand, accessible until 2024 at Zeop and from January 2025 via brands on the island.
