Around ten firefighters, including some rescuers specializing in nautical intervention, were sent to Miramont-de-Comminges (Haute-Garonne) on Wednesday October 30, 2024. A body was discovered floating in the Garonne. Firefighters recovered the body from a bridge in the town, specifies The Comminges Gazette . A team from the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure (Smur) was also present on site.

An ongoing investigation

The mayor also visited the scene. A gendarmerie investigation was opened to determine whether the victim drowned and whether she fell into the water in the area where she was found, indicates France 3 . The discovery of the body came ten days after the disappearance of a 23-year-old young man last seen in the area.

The regional daily indicates that elements gathered by the Saint-Gaudens public prosecutor's office (Haute-Garonne) show that the remains found in the river would be those of the missing person. A search operation, notably mobilizing divers and a drone, had been organized, in vain. The folded clothes of the young man who had gone looking for metal objects in the water using a magnet were discovered at the foot of the bridge.
