It was walkers who made this sad discovery in a ditch bordering the Trans’Oisea network of gentle roads which crosses the department.

The company Agri environmentwhich works in the treatment of seeds (wheat, barley, field beans, squash, peas, soybeans) Rainvillers (Oise), is the subject of a complaint from the Taste (Grouping of protection organizations of the Oise) dated October 19.

This complaint “targets violations of the environmental code, endangering the health of others, failure to comply with safety rules and departmental health regulations. »

Environmental police seized

The French Biodiversity Office (OFB)the “environmental police”, was also seized and an investigation is well underway. Around October 11, 2024, a chemical product was spilled by mistake into this watercourse, which directly affects the Avelon, one of the tributaries of the Thérain.

Barriers and tapes have since been placed around the ditch affected by this pollution which gave the water a raspberry pink color.

An accidental release according to the company

The manager of the incriminated company explains that a can of dye containing “no pesticides” would accidentally be fell from a van. Its contents would then have spread into the ditch.

If the analysis results are not yet known, the company assures that it “has done what is necessary to ensure that there is no pollution” and has carried out “the necessary pumping and cleaning operations. »

“We intervened quickly, we asked for things to be monitored by the environmental police. On the other hand, it has nothing to do with the Avelon. The pollution from this dye applied to farm seeds remained localized over the 35 meters of our ditch,” he says to Oise News.

“So the problem is simple, but I don’t know why it all got so big. If we had really hit the Avelon, we would have other problems.”

The Thérain, a “abused” river

Didier Malé, the president of Roso, does not share this opinion. For him, however, there is little doubt that this little river communicates well with this tributary of the Thérain. “A particularly mistreated river in the Oise”.

The latter recalls the numerous pollution episodes that the river has suffered over the last four years. “Two years ago, the liquid fertilizer reserve of a farmer from Songeons was spilled there, destroying the fish population. There was also the repeated pollution from Spontex, the affair of the wastewater treatment plant, etc. This is starting to do a lot! »

According to him, this type of site, not listed as an installation classified for environmental protection, “generally goes under the radar of administrations”.

“The investigation will therefore have to determine whether everything is done according to the rules of the art in this company. Who was in this dye? I don't have the can in front of me, I don't know anything about it. The question that arises in this matter is whether this site is compliant and whether the products stored there are properly stored.

The head of Roso is now relying on the conclusions of the investigators and the analysis results concerning this file.
