VOLAE brand eggs, purchased between September 12 and October 25, 2024, should not be consumed. The government had already announced on Friday, October 25, the recall of many boxes of eggs potentially contaminated with salmonella.
In boxes of six, twelve or eighteen, VOLAE brand eggs distributed by Intermarché, between September 12 and October 25, 2024, are unfit for consumption. A proven risk of contracting salmonellosis is cited by RappelConso to request the withdrawal of the product from stores. If you are one of the consumers who purchased one of these boxes, the action you should take is to “no longer consume the product” and to “return to point of sale”. A refund will then be made.
Food infections caused by salmonella result in diarrhea and vomiting “often accompanied by fever and headache which generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products”points out RappelConso. However, there is no systematic concern if you consume these products. If there are no symptoms within seven days, there is no need to worry about it. Same thing if the eggs have been thoroughly cooked before consumption. Cooking the products through to +65°C destroys these bacteria.
On Friday October 25, eggs from the Douce France, Ovalis and Poitou eggs brands had already been recalled, also for possible contamination by salmonella. Le Parisien revealed that these contaminations were spotted after eight people fell ill while eating a homemade chocolate mousse dessert. In total, nearly 3 million eggs are affected by the recall. Ovalis, one of the recalled egg brands, is “the commercial brand of Pamp'oeufs which produces and markets a billion eggs per year, or 20% of the French shell egg market”points out Le Parisien.
