The Creuse will perhaps soon have one of the most beautiful French villages. Chambon-sur-Voueize is officially a candidate. The town hall had thought about it around fifteen years ago but the project did not materialize. “But since then, we have worked, and this summer, we received a visit from someone from the label who strongly advised us to apply” rejoices the mayor, Cécile Creuzon. This national label is awarded by a jury, municipalities must meet 32 criteria.
Among the mandatory criteria, you must have at least two heritage-listed buildings, which is the case for the Sainte-Valérie abbey church and the Romanesque bridge. “We need architectural qualities, highlight heritage, etc. A good point is, for example, that we are working on burying power lines” specifies the elected official who adds “This label would have an influence on Chambon, but also on the whole territory I think since we know that people travel from far away to tour the most beautiful villages in France.” 180 municipalities in France with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants now have this label. The jury has six months to decide and will give its response on June 28.
